Control of ticks and fleas on dogs and cats
One Susty idea related to fleas and ticks is to avoid the conventional treatment using venom pipettes. We started to look for a better alternative because the conventional treatment, in addition to being harmful to our pets, has proved to be ineffective (sometimes we found fleas and ticks in the same week that we had applied the product on our pets). We researched alternatives and the one that pleased us most was the Neem oil, a vegetable oil from India with insecticidal action. It was more efficient and economical, besides being natural.
Neem oil is very easy to handle. It can be blended with shampoo and/or applied directly on the animal (spray), all in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. It can also be used to clean the floor or be applied on the yard to control infestations.
The main problem of the traditional poison pipettes against fleas and ticks, according to veterinary Dr. Sylvia Angelico from the Cachorro Verde project (GreenDog – from Portuguese), is that they are usually associated with "allergies, seizures and even increased the risk of cancer. In 2008 in the US there were no less than 44,000 suspected adverse reactions reported by the use of products of this kind!"
